![]() Rife with problems, some of these DLC packs have been barely-playable on a technical level, no matter how good they are underneath all of the issues. After all, the DLC packs are all worth playing for Fallout 3 fans, but so far, on PlayStation 3, they've run like complete garbage. Readers who have been following my comments on Erik's reviews for the DLC thusfar have no doubt been disheartened. And finally, we've gotten to the real heart of the DLC packs' greatness - Point Lookout. Colin's Take on the PS3 Version Here we are, in the third and final week of Fallout 3 DLC releases on the PlayStation 3. I also had the game crash on me once during a load which resulted in my save file being corrupted, so other types of bugs may very well be present. The lush landscape looks nice, but all of that vegetation does suffer from some ugly draw-in as you walk through it, and boy, are some of those animations ever growing stale. Those looking for new toys to play with will only find a few and anybody who has already hit the level cap of 30 set by the last download, Broken Steel, will find that cap still in place. ![]() There are a few drawbacks to this download. There must be something in the irradiated water because these guys are tough as nails. Even with a full arsenal and stocked inventory I found the oddities and monsters that resemble the Swamp Thing to be formidable opponents. Before heading into this new content, make sure your character is prepared. Bringing the lighthouse back to life was my favorite little extra. The quests will take you about five hours to work through but you can easily spend a few more just seeing the sights and working through the unmarked quests. I spent an entire day wandering the swamps and still haven't seen it all. The same care and attention to detail was put into this area that you find in the Capital Wasteland which makes this densely packed area one of the most rewarding places to check out in all of Fallout 3. Those that explore it all will find five cool side quests and a handful more unmarked quests that can easily eat up hours of your time. Along with more history on the fictional Great War that felled civilization, you'll also find nods to another of America's real life great battles. Point Lookout is a Civil War landmark and that history was not lost on the game designers. The vast area takes you from a rocky shore dominated by a lighthouse into the depths of a swampy, irradiated forest filled with inbred country folk. Many skills only need to be at lvl 9 because of utility items that can raise skills. The major draw to Point Lookout, though, is its emphasis on exploration. In this sense, saving a skill book for lvl 9 increases its value immensely, especially if the character is going to respec anyway. These "artificial" skill points can be used to level any skill, and act as normal skill points. So, if a player that has used a skill book to get from lvl 9 to lvl 10 will receive an additional six skill points than the same character without the skill book usage. For example, using a book to get from lvl 9 to lvl 10 in a given skill is equivalent to 6 skill points. ![]()
